What the RDI protocol involves for six months.

Relationship Development Intervention Introduction

The Relationship Development Intervention introduction is for those who have not yet been on a four day parent training workshop run by the Connections Centre.   It involves the consultant and the parents.   It is a time to gain a more detailed description of   Relationship Development Intervention, cover the Relationship Development
Intervention principles, and look at some parent objectives.   This can be omitted from your package if you have been to a recent four day parent training workshop.

Parent Education/ Objectives

Parent objectives work on the "how to" work with your child to achieve the optimum and are important to set foundations before moving on to child objectives. Some of the headings covered in parent objectives are; Education, Readiness and Commitment, Co-regulation, Guided participation, Elaboration and Transfer.

Personal Consultation/ Pre Relationship Development Assessment  interview (compulsory)

A personal consultation involves the consultant and parents and goes over individual concerns, personal issues and a briefing of the Relationship Development Assessment, including questions about your child.   Minor requirements for Relationship Development Assessment 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.

Relationship Development Assessment (compulsory)

This assessment will determine the stage and level of your child.   The purpose of this assessment is to customise a treatment plan for the child and parent(s) and monitor the child's progress.   The assessment comes in six parts Relationship Development Assessment 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.   Parts 1 - 3 are video taped as they need to be scored and assessed.   Each part is done on a separate day, after the previous part has been scored.   Relationship Development Assessment helps measure several areas such as; ability to reference others, handling transitions and changes, regulating, coordinating and pacing with others, level of emotional response and range of emotions, episodic and emotional memory, referencing others non-verbally, attention span, persistence on a project, imagination and imaginary play, ability to give and receive understanding, communication style, integrating others ideas and point of view, flexible thinking, ability to reflect on past experiences and anticipate future scenarios, curiosity.

Relationship Development Assessment 1 (compulsory)

Relationship Development Assessment 1 is standardised and contains approximately 10 different activities.   It is administered with the child and one (or two) parent(s), instructed and guided by the consultant.   Relationship Development Assessment 1 takes approximately 2 hours to conduct (including tape changes, toilet breaks, breaks etc).

Relationship Development Assessment 2 (compulsory)

Relationship Development Assessment 2 uses the information from Relationship Development Assessment 1 and considers obstacles and strengths to plan modifications and test hypotheses created from Relationship Development Assessment 1.   The participants in Relationship Development Assessment  2 are the child and the consultant.   Relationship Development Assessment 2 will take approximately 30 minutes - 1 hour to conduct.

Prior Relationship Development Assessment 3 Consultation (compulsory)

This involves the parent(s) and the consultant, and its pupose is to review findings in Relationship Development Assessment
1 and 2, giving the parent(s) useful and relevant feedback to help them with their co-regulatory relationship.

Relationship Development Assessment 3 (compulsory)

Relationship Development Assessment 3 uses the best results found in Relationship Development Assessment 2.   The participants in Relationship Development Assessment 3 are both parents, individually for one hour each, consultant and the child.   Depending on what is required and the circumstances Relationship Development Assessment 3 may be conducted similarly to this; the consultant working with the child and the parents watching and then the parent replaces the consultant and works with the child.   The consultant may coach the parent through, and/ or provide feedback afterwards, and/ or review the video with the parents where neccessary.   The purpose of Relationship Development Assessment 3 is to work on parent obstacles and establish a co-regulatory relationship with the child.  

Relationship Development Assessment  4 (compulsory)

The purpose of Relationship Development Assessment 4 is to evaluate readiness and commitment, identifying modifications and potential obstacles.  Both parents participate in Relationship Development Assessment 4 together with the consultant, without the child.  Relationship Development Assessment 4 takes approximately one hour.

Relationship Development Assessment 5 (compulsory)

Relationship Development Assessment 5 is an opportunity to determine the most effective parent - consultant coaching style.  It is a time to discuss factors such as guidance, scaffolding, framing, communication methods etc.  Relationship Development Assessment 5 takes approximately one hour per parent.  The child may be present for part of the session depending on coaching required.

Individualised Treatment Plan

This involves just the consultant, who considers all strengths, obstacles, assessment findings, co occurring disorders, other therapies, and any other concerns previously discussed, and devises a customised treatment plan for the optimal way of the child interacting with the parents.   This will be produced in report form, that will include; summaries of each part of assessment, modifications, recommendations, suggestions, further reading, limitations, objectives, meta functions etc. 

Relationship Development Assessment 6 Treatment Plan Consultation (compulsory)

Relationship Development Assessment 6 is for a summary of the Relationship Development Assessment and a reflection.  It is also a time to plan specifically for the next month and more generally for the next six months.  This should take approximately one hour with both parents and consultant, without the child.

Feedback Consulations (compulsory)

 
15 minutes of footage is require every week after the Treatment Plan Consultation.   This footage should include; both parents, lifestyle activities, difficulties, successes, concerns, or other specific requested information and sent with a self evaluation form.   The footage is reviewed and assessed by the consultant and feedback is given via email, using a feedback form, through the Operating System.

Face to Face Consultations (optional)

In between weeks where footage is sent, a face to face consultation (in home), will involve the parent(s) and the consultant to discuss any topics in more detail, provide role plays, demonstrations and more support.   Consultations are approximately 1 and a half hours long.

Unlimited email consultations to help you throughout your programme, any queries, questions, concerns can be addressed at any time.

Re administration of Relationship Development Assessment (compulsory)

After 6 months, you will be required to do the Relationship Development Assessment again, all six parts as before.   The purpose for this is to measure progress and determine your next steps.
