Relationship Development Intervention Introduction
The Relationship Development Intervention introduction is for those who have not yet been on a four day parent training workshop run by the Connections Centre. It involves the consultant and the parents. It is a time to gain a more detailed description of Relationship Development Intervention, cover the Relationship Development
Intervention principles, and look at some parent objectives. This can be omitted from your package if you have been to a recent four day parent training workshop.
Parent Education/ Objectives
Parent objectives work on the "how to" work with your child to achieve the optimum and are important to set foundations before moving on to child objectives. Some of the headings covered in parent objectives are; Education, Readiness and Commitment, Co-regulation, Guided participation, Elaboration and Transfer.
Personal Consultation/ Pre Relationship Development Assessment interview (compulsory)
A personal consultation involves the consultant and parents and goes over individual concerns, personal issues and a briefing of the Relationship Development Assessment, including questions about your child. Minor requirements for Relationship Development Assessment 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Relationship Development Assessment (compulsory)
This assessment will determine the stage and level of your child. The purpose of this assessment is to customise a treatment plan for the child and parent(s) and monitor the child's progress. The assessment comes in six parts Relationship Development Assessment 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Parts 1 - 3 are video taped as they need to be scored and assessed. Each part is done on a separate day, after the previous part has been scored. Relationship Development Assessment helps measure several areas such as; ability to reference others, handling transitions and changes, regulating, coordinating and pacing with others, level of emotional response and range of emotions, episodic and emotional memory, referencing others non-verbally, attention span, persistence on a project, imagination and imaginary play, ability to give and receive understanding, communication style, integrating others ideas and point of view, flexible thinking, ability to reflect on past experiences and anticipate future scenarios, curiosity.
Relationship Development Assessment 1 (compulsory)
Relationship Development Assessment 1 is standardised and contains approximately 10 different activities. It is administered with the child and one (or two) parent(s), instructed and guided by the consultant. Relationship Development Assessment 1 takes approximately 2 hours to conduct (including tape changes, toilet breaks, breaks etc).
Relationship Development Assessment 2 (compulsory)
Relationship Development Assessment 2 uses the information from Relationship Development Assessment 1 and considers obstacles and strengths to plan modifications and test hypotheses created from Relationship Development Assessment 1. The participants in Relationship Development Assessment 2 are the child and the consultant. Relationship Development Assessment 2 will take approximately 30 minutes - 1 hour to conduct.
Prior Relationship Development Assessment 3 Consultation (compulsory)
1 and 2, giving the parent(s) useful and relevant feedback to help them with their co-regulatory relationship.
Relationship Development Assessment
6 is for a summary of the Relationship Development Assessment and a reflection. It is also a time to
plan specifically for the next month and more generally for the next
six months. This should take approximately one hour with both parents
and consultant, without the child.
